Congratulations Kate and Niamh!
Kate McCarthy and Niamh O’Keeffe from Ms Coyne’s 2nd class entered a cake competition on Saturday 9th March in Little Island, Cork. They were in the eight to twelve age group and that age group had to make a miniature garden cake. Kate made a vegetable garden and Niamh made a flower garden cake. Their friend Maria helped them every Tuesday. The inside of the cake was a dummy and the bottom of the cake had a board under it. Niamh put a lot of flowers on her cake and the colours of the flowers were pink and red and white. Kate made carrots, cabbages, cauliflowers and spring onions. Well done girls, you did a fantastic job.

Green Schools News
After being awarded our first Green Flag last year for Litter & Waste, we are now busy working on getting an ENERGY FLAG by trying to reduce the amount of energy we use in Bunscoil.
Last September we took the first step towards this and formed a Green Schools Energy committee. The committee will guide the school in all our efforts and is made up of children from 2nd to 6th classes.Committee Photos
The committee will play an important part in reaching our goal. But we need everyone’s help to make it happen. In January we carried out an Environmental Review of the school to find out where energy is being used in Bunscoil. Here are some more of our findings, which were calculated, compiled and represented by Ms. Fitgerald’s classes.
Energy Review photos
Tommy, Nicole and Adam have been checking our electricity meter readings every day to keep track of how much energy we use. We discovered that, on average, 294units of electricity is used in Bunscoil every day from Monday to Friday. That’s the equivalent of running an electric shower for 49 hours!!
The Green Schools committee are now using the findings of the Environmental Review to put together an Action Plan to save energy around Bunscoil. We also sent an Energy Questionnaire home to find out how we and our families use energy in our daily lives. A big thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the questionnaire and return it to us. Over the next while, classes will be using the surveys to make data charts in their Maths classes to show the results of these so watch out for these in Maths copies.
